Mindy S. Ely, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor & Department Chair at Illinois State University in the Department of Special Education. She has spent most of her career focused on early intervention/early childhood teacher preparation. She was in early interventionist working in homes with families of infants and toddlers with visual impairments. She also served at Hearing and Vision Connections and STAR NET Region III in roles providing professional development to teachers of very young children. Most recently, she developed the Matrix Approach, a means to help teachers of the visually impaired apply family centered practices in their work with infants and toddlers.
